Marshalltown Water Works trustee Kenn Vinson told the Times-Republican he and other trustees have been interviewing Chief Executive Officer/General Manager candidates this week.

“We will finish Friday,” Vinson said. “Assuming all details fall into place, it is our plan to make a job offer next week.”

The trustees have been managing the utility with key staff since shortly after the death of CEO/GM Steve Sincox, 48, on July 9.

Sincox, an Ottumwa native and Iowa State University graduate, had been hired by MWW in 1995 and became CEO in December 2008.

He had earned the respect and admiration of staff, trustees and other officials during his tenure.

The MWW had extended an application deadline to Oct. 8 for candidates interested in applying for the position, Vinson said.

Last month Vinson said the Water Works had been actively advertising the job opening in a variety of industry magazines.

“(Former MWW CEO/GM and current At-Large Councilor) Leon (Lamer) has been valuable in helping us prepare job qualifications and advertisements,” Vinson said.

Joining Vinson as trustees are Laura Eilers, a local attorney with Peglow, O’Hare and See, and Jerry Young, a retired banker.

MWW is an independent utility dating back to 1876, and does not fall under the direction of the Marshalltown City Council.

Marshalltown’s water was voted Best Tasting Water in Iowa in 2016 — the third time in eight years it had won the award.
