Man arrested for copper theft

Quick

A Marshalltown man was arrested and taken to Marshall County Jail by Marshall County Sheriff’s Office earlier this week on a host of burglary-related charges related to theft of a spool of copper wire from a contractor’s work site.

Sheriff Steve Hoffman said photographic evidence implicated Drew William Quick, 28, as a suspect. Quick entered the property in the 3000 block of Parker Avenue and took the spool with 75 feet of copper wiring and a theft tracking device. Quick put the spool in the trunk of his vehicle and left the scene.

Criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court show Quick was charged with theft fourth degree, two counts of burglary third degree, theft second degree, trespassing, possession of burglar’s tools and burglary third degree.

On Thursday, Hoffman said deputies notices comparisons to evidence found from a burglarized State Center construction site. Consequently, an additional burglary charge was added.

At his initial hearing, a Marshall County District Court Magistrate set bond at $5,000 cash/surety, and appointed Quick a public defender. His preliminary hearing is Oct. 12.
