Man arrested on theft of lottery tickets

Cook

Two convenience store videos were key evidence giving authorities cause to arrest a Grinnell man earlier this week on charges ranging from theft to burglary to possession of burglar’s tools.

Dillon Cherokee Eagle Cook, 21, was arrested and taken to jail by a Marshall County Sheriff’s deputy, according to six criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court.

One complaint said a Gilman store’s video depicted a disguised burglar who used a rock and his feet to forcibly smash the business door window to make an entry, then stole numerous tobacco products and lottery tickets. Less than two hours later, two of the stolen tickets were cashed at a Grinnell convenience store. The businesses surveillance video identified Cook as the ticket holder.

A subsequent search of Cook’s residence recovered some tobacco products. Another resident told authorities Cook had told him he had committed the Gilman burglaries to steal the tobacco. Additionally, Cook’s footwear was recovered and is believed to have broken glass particles embedded in the soles.
