Man charged with domestic abuse

A Marshalltown man was arrested by the Marshalltown Police Department earlier this week on three criminal counts stemming from a domestic abuse incident.

Lendle Blelai, 31, was charged with domestic abuse assault-first offense, child endangerment and obstruction of emergency communication, according to criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court.

An investigation by the MPD at a residence in the 200 block of S. 26th Ave. reported the defendant slapped the victim in the face numerous times which resulted in injuries to her. The child endangerment charge resulted from the defendant assaulting the victim with a 2-year-old present.

Additionally, the defendant obstructed the victim’s attempts at at calling emergency services by removing a cell phone from the victim and ending the call. Consequently, Blelai was taken to Marshall County Jail, but later released on his own recognizance. At the defendant’s initial hearing a Marshall County Magistrate issued a no contact order against Blelai, meaning he can not contact the victim. His preliminary hearing is Nov. 5.
