Man threatens deputy and his family after narcotics arrest

A local man who was being processed at Marshall County Jail after a narcotics arrest Thursday threatened one of the arresting officers and his family, said Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman.

Ramon Alejandro Medina Angel, 25, made the threats which were witnessed by an MCSO jailer.

Angel was one of three men arrested earlier in the day at a local residence by officers with the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, according to numerous criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court.

“There was an individual who had outstanding warrants from Polk County we were trying to apprehend,” Hoffman said. “As a result of the apprehension it lead to search warrants being executed for drugs. The amount of methamphetamine confiscated was not large scale.”

Angel was charged with possession of controlled substance-methamphetamine-first offense, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Because of the threats to law enforcement, they asked the magistrate to increase his bond. Consequently, he is being held on $5,000 cash-only bond.

Also arrested was Codey Riley Briley, 28, of Marshalltown.

He was charged with prohibited acts-Schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-first offense, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

His preliminary hearing is Nov. 11.

A third local man, Victor Manuel Medina Moreno, 49, was charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine-first offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia,

He is being held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities ordered a hold placed on the defendant after he is prosecuted by Marshall County.

The defendant’s preliminary hearing is Nov. 5.
