Kathy Anzis of Marshalltown, AKA “The Christmas Candle Lady,” has been collecting Christmas candles since 1990. Her massive collection — which exceeds 1,400 pieces — is on display inside a storefront at the Marshalltown Mall now through the first part of January. Candles made to look like snowmen, Santas, penguins, snowflakes, nutcrackers, gingerbread, gumdrops, toy trains, teddy bears, nativities, angels, trees, boots, cartoon characters, mittens, reindeer and bears make up the display. Anzis said she enjoys sharing her collection with other people during the holidays because the candles bring smiles to people’s faces. She shops for candles year-round, favoring discount stores. She also receives many as gifts.
