13th Street holiday market slated for Thursday

Pop-Down for the Pop-Ups is a new event coming to the 13th Street District from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Various businesses in the district will have extended business hours, holding open houses. In addition, they will play host to “pop-up” or temporary shops within their businesses.

“We’re a community within a community. We love when people come down to the 13th Street District. We’ve been known lately to have unique events, and we want to continue that. This is the first time we’ve ever had a holiday pop-up and we thought it was a fun idea, so we’ll see how this goes,” event chair Heidi Draisey said.

The event’s goal is twofold: encourage folks to shop local this holiday season and allow for pop-up entities to share in the holiday fun. Cosmetics, clothing, accessories, cooking utensils, bees wax items, chocolates, floral arrangements, metal signs and more will be offered.

Some businesses will also have food and refreshments available.

“You can make an evening of it — get the girlfriends together, or your grandma, mom or daughter,” she said. “It’s free to attend.”
