Shots fired during Marshalltown drug bust
During a drug investigation involving Marshalltown Police Thursday morning, two officers fired guns upon encountering an armed man.
The investigation involved law enforcement personnel executing a drug search warrant at 302 N. Second St, according to Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper. Nobody was injured, he said, and the armed man was detained.
The investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
“The Marshalltown Police Department has asked the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation to conduct an independent investigation of this officer involved shooting,” Tupper said. “Pursuant to department policy, and normal protocols, the Marshalltown Police Department officers involved in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave while this investigation is ongoing.”
Tupper said it’s rare for MPD officers to fire their guns. In his more than seven years with the department, it’s only happened three times.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Mid Iowa Drug Task Force also assisted in the investigation.
