Singing Valentines return again

T-R FILE PHOTO Now in its 15th year, the Marshalltown Men’s Chorus will present Singing Valentines all day on Feb. 14, starting at 7 a.m. and concluding around 5:30 p.m., traveling throughout Marshalltown and to neighboring communities.

Now in its 15th year, the Marshalltown Men’s Chorus presentation of Singing Valentines has brought smiles — and tears — to the faces of its recipients.

“We go everywhere for these — wherever the person is,” Coordinator Larry Pfantz said.

Members of the chorus will perform the Singing Valentines all day on Feb. 14, starting at 7 a.m. and concluding around 5:30 p.m., traveling throughout Marshalltown and to neighboring communities.

The cost is $25 and includes two to three “sweetheart” songs performed in four or five-part harmony, a red silk rose and a customized Valentine card. Three groups of singers will be dispatched to accomodate all the requests. On average, the chorus delivers around 90 to 100 each Valentine’s Day.

“We ask that when you place the order, to allow for about an hour of wiggle room in when we actually get there,” he said.

There are no restrictions on who can receive a Singing Valentine. Customers may send them to friends, colleagues, parents, children and friends.

“We’ve been sent to Walmart and businesses where we just sang for everyone,” Pfantz said.

Order and payment must be received by 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 so the men have a chance to coordinate their routes. Nursing homes, businesses, homes and restaurants are places they will stop. Its mTunes group of singers will perform a special program at 9 a.m. in the Malloy LRC at the Iowa Veterans Home.

The chorus will perform its 64th annual spring concert at 6:30 p.m. on April 13 at the MHS Auditorium. Tickets are $10 each or two for $10 when you package them with a Singing Valentine.

Mail or phone orders to: Marshalltown Men’s Chorus, 208 Wauconda Rd. Marshalltown. Contact Pfantz at 641-753-7275.

Patronizing local shops and businesses this holiday season aids in economic development.

“We saw an increase in local support during the holiday season and it would be great to see that continue into the 2019 gift-giving holidays, like Valentine’s Day,” Chamber Director Lynn Olberding said. “There are local florists, restaurants and gift shops that offer unique treasures that would make a perfect gift. There are also many places that offer gift cards or certificates that would be fun to gift to your Valentine. Marshalltown has really banded together to ‘Think Local First’ and we’d love to see as much support for our local businesses as possible.”
