Des Moines man arrested on multiple felony sex abuse charges

A Des Moines man is in Marshall County Jail on four sex offense charges involving a female juvenile.

Kyaw Maw, 37, was arrested by authorities Thursday on three felony criminal counts, according to complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court. Maw is charged with sexual abuse-second degree, a Class B felony, two counts of sexual abuse-third degree, a Class C felony and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The defendant is alleged to have had sex with a 7-year-old victim at two Marshalltown residences over a seven-year period.

At his initial appearance Friday, a magistrate appointed the defendant a public defender, ordered a no contact order against the defendant, meaning he cannot contact the victim. Additionally, Maw was ordered to be held on $25,000 cash only bond. His preliminary hearing is March 11.
