No one was injured in a house fire that was estimated to cause $40,000 in damage Saturday.

On arrival at 912 W. Boone St., Marshalltown Fire Department personnel found fire visible on the first floor and smoke venting around the windows on the second floor of a vacant residential structure in the process of being remodeled.

Fire personnel made entry and attacked the fire on the first floor while a second crew went to the second floor to check for fire extension. Access to the second floor was gained using an aerial ladder as the stairwell had been consumed by fire. After the fire was extinguished, crews remained on scene removing portions of the wall and ceiling on both floors checking for extension.

An investigation determined the cause was electrical in nature, according to MFD. The Marshalltown Police Department and UnityPoint EMS assisted the fire department.
