Rising country artist headlines concert benefitting local tornado relief
Marshalltown, welcome the new “Music Man.”
With apologies to the late Meredith Wilson of Mason City, Casey Muessigmann (pronounced “music man”) is ready to make a name for himself while helping Marshalltown’s tornado victims.
He is slated to do both at the local Midnight Ballroom, 1700 S. Center St., March 10.
Tickets are $10 at the door which will open at 5 p.m.
The up-and-coming country artist Muessigmann and band are waiving their usual $3,000 booking fee to help, said event promoter Rev. Jennifer Daniel of Marshalltown.
Muessigmann and band are headliners, joined by two other bands to round out the music-filled night.
Leading off is local band The 641 Project including Rev. Jon Rottink of the local First Presbyterian Church. In addition to Rottink, other band members are Doug Norton, Martin Downs and Isai Jordan.
He is the youth pastor at the church which played a major role providing hundreds of free-of-charge showers and meals to residents following the tornado’s aftermath.
“For myself and band, music is our ministry,” Rottink said. “We try to say yes whenever possible, especially to things benefitting the community. We always look to share the good news of the Gospel through music, and help people realize there is always hope, especially in troubled times. And we love to see Marshalltown as a strong community, with people smiling and having a great time.”
Daniels and members of the band “Restoration” will play between Rottink’s set and Muessigmann.
Daniels said she heard Muessigmann, who considers himself a “quirky country boy” sing at a wedding. She then asked him to do a concert aiding tornado relief.
Muessigmann is a Boone native who has also lived in Spencer. He was one of several acts featured on the popular “The Voice” network television program season three. He was on “Team Blake,” with country star Blake Shelton. “Dream Big, Live Big” is Muessigmann’s motto.
Daniel said she and other members of the tornado relief committee scheduled the 5 p.m. start in hopes of attracting older residents who do not like to drive too late at night.
She is estimating the event will be over at 7 or 7:30 p.m.
