Marshalltown Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found Monday morning.

Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said a body was found in the fields near the Marshalltown Walmart, 2802 S. Center St., at 9 a.m. Monday. The body had been there for some time, Tupper said. There is no evidence or information known to investigators that suggests foul play is associated with this death.

The police are investigating the possibility that the deceased may be Michelle Grommet. An autopsy is needed to confirm the identity and cause of death. Grommet, 32, was last seen near Marshalltown Walmart the evening of March 15 and a missing person investigation has been ongoing since reported to police on March 22.

On March 15, police and medical personnel had contact with Grommet after responding to a medical call for service in the 2800 block of South Center Street. Grommet was seen by paramedics and refused medical attention. Family members have not seen or heard from her since.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason City Police Department have also assisted with this investigation.
