Victims in Sunday’s shooting identified

Marshalltown Police identified the victims of a Sunday morning shooting in Marshalltown.

The victims were identified as Devonte’ Allen Brooks, 26, of Marshalltown, Selena Ericka Quezada, 21, of Marshalltown and Alrenae Day Winfrey, 23, of Marshalltown.

The shooting took place in the 400 block of Melody Lane around 3:48 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

Trevion Devante Hardin, 22, was taken into custody later Sunday and charged with several counts, including attempted murder, willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, reckless use of a firearm and going armed with intent, all of which are felonies under Iowa law. He’s being held in Marshall County Jail.

“The investigation into motive continues,” Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said. “Preliminary information suggests this was a senseless act carried out after a verbal argument during a party.”

The victims were taken to UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown, according to a statement from Marshalltown Police and were later transported to medical facilities in Des Moines.

Tupper said there is no impending danger to the public. The investigation of this incident is ongoing.

Information leading to an arrest could earn a reward of up to $1,000.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are assisting the Marshalltown Police Department with this investigation.
