Man charged with first-degree theft for estate mismanagement
A State Center man was arrested recently by a Marshall County Sheriff deputy on two felony counts and taken to jail.
Gregory Paul Maxwell, 62, was charged with first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse-exploitation over $100, according to criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court. The defendant, acting as power of attorney, wrote numerous checks from his late father’s bank account and misused a Bank of America credit card extensively more than $10,000, according to the complaint.
Theft in the first degree is a Class C felony. Dependent adult abuse-exploitation over $100 is a Class D felony. At his initial appearance Wednesday a magistrate issued a no contact order against the defendant to protect others involved with the estate. He remains in jail on $15,000 bond cash/surety. His preliminary hearing is June 18.
