New Iowa Valley chancellor to be paid $225K annually

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO — The Iowa Valley board formally approved a contract with Kristie Fisher at Wednesday’s meeting. She is set to take over as the district’s chancellor this summer.

The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors officially sealed in Kristie Fisher as the incoming district chancellor Wednesday by approving her contract for the 2019-20 year.

The board chose Fisher to take over for Chancellor Chris Duree in April.

“We have drafted a contract with Dr. Fisher, we have reviewed it with her and she has approved the contract,” board President Larry Johnson said.

Duree said Fisher will be accompanying him at many meetings to be able to “hit the ground running” when she takes over in July.

“We have dates lined up, guaranteed we’ll have a very robust schedule and try to cover as much ground as possible,” Duree said. “That includes being with me at the June trustees foundation meeting at Ellsworth, our president’s retreat and then several other days.”

He and Fisher are also lining up meetings with stakeholders in the communities within the district ahead of Fisher officially taking charge.

Here are some of the highlights from Fisher’s new contract, according to information in Wednesday’s board meeting portfolio:

• Fisher’s annual salary is listed at $225,000, but based on her projected start date of July 15, the actual amount for the contract this year will be about $216,500. She will also be entitled to all customary insurance, fringe and leave benefits provided for district administrators. As of FY 2018, Duree’s salary and benefits came to about $262,000, per Iowa Department of Education information. He has been at the district for about 10 years.

• As chancellor, Fisher will be in charge of district administration under the direction of the Iowa Valley Board of Directors, the seven members of which are elected by district voters.

• The board will evaluate Fisher’s job performance by March 31, 2020. She will also have to submit a self-evaluation to the board by the regular meeting in April 2020.
