Wednesday evening, a group of 45 fifth and sixth graders from Lenihan Intermediate School graduated from the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA’s Teach Them to Swim program. Held over the course of 12 weeks, twice weekly, youth learned about First Aid, water safety, basic CPR and how to swim. The program, which is free of charge to participants, was started in the fall of 2012 after the tragic deaths of four children who drowned in the Iowa River that summer. The effort is made possible through a variety of community partners.
