City to spray mosquitoes Thursday night
It will be round one: Marshalltownians vs. mosquitoes.
The Marshalltown street department will be spraying for the insects across the city Thursday night into early Friday morning.
“Weather permitting, crews will spray from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.,” Public Works Director Justin Nickel said.
It is the city’s first effort this summer.
Recent heavy rains and warm temperatures have produced ideal breeding conditions. Entomologists recommended fighting back by dumping all standing water as flower pots, gutters and bird baths have the potential to attract mosquitoes.
Mosquito repellants provide some protection as well as staying indoors around dusk, when mosquito activity is often the heaviest.
