Recently, eighth graders who participated in MICA’s TOP (Teen Outreach Program), repurposed paper and cardboard goods to craft one-of-a-kind journals for use by victims of violence and crime. They were aided by Nancy Mach, right, recycling education coordinator for Solid Waste Management/Marshall County Landfill. Wednesday afternoon, Mach presented the journals to Marshalltown Police Department Lt. Tricia Thein, who will make sure the journals are distributed to those in need. The students used pop can containers, cereal boxes, yarn, twigs, wrapping paper, recycled notebooks and more for this project.
