Special supervisors meeting on courthouse space scheduled Wednesday

The Marshall County Board of Supervisors will meet in special session Wednesday morning to discuss and possibly take action on the official Marshall County Courthouse layout.

The layout will include the planned locations of everything from department offices to doors and windows to bathrooms. The courthouse houses not only many of the county’s government offices, but also several state district court offices.

Members of the judicial branch aired complaints against the supervisors at a special meeting in March. No final decisions were made at that meeting, but members of the judiciary made it clear they felt they hadn’t been given much information about ideas for the layout from the county.

County officials have said the plan will give enough space for everyone in the courthouse to function.

Tornado damage and subsequent repairs to the courthouse are the reason the new layout is being created in the first place. The historic building was famously damaged by the July 19 storm.

Wednesday’s meeting is set to start 8:30 a.m. at the Great Western Bank building, 11 N. First Ave. Visitors are asked to use the north entrance of the bank.
