Marshalltown man Hector Varela Jr., 30, was arrested Sunday and charged with domestic abuse assault – second offense as well as with operating a vehicle without owner’s consent.

Varela made his initial court appearance Monday morning and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. July 18 at the Max Building, 101 S. First Ave.

He was arrested at the 600 block of East Anson Street around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Marshalltown Police records.
