A structure fire at Morford Construction in the 700 block of West Madison Street kept 15 Marshalltown firefighters at the scene for three hours. The fire department was alerted at 3:35 p.m. Friday to a fire at a Morton building. A large fire was noted on the west side of the structure two overhead doors had collapsed. A semi-trailer also caught fire on the west side of the building. All resulted in the building being a total loss, according to the Marshalltown Fire Department. On Saturday business owner and local resident LeRoy Morford said he’d keep working despite the loss. “I am going to rebuild,” LeRoy Morford said. “The is devastating, but it is not going to put me out of business. I have insurance. I am going to keep working, and we are going to keep offering the Marshalltown area needed goods an services. I need to keep working.” Morford said he will not be deterred in planning the businesses 50th anniversary celebration. “I am going to have promotions and special events,” he said. “I started in 1970. It (the business) has been great and wonderful.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
