A Marshalltown man was arrested Saturday for domestic abuse assault, according to a Marshalltown Police Department report.

Jerry Dean Snook, 55, assaulted the victim by pushing her and taking a dog away causing injury to her hand and arm, according to a criminal complaint.

Domestic abuse assault is a serious misdemeanor.

At his initial appearance Sunday, a magistrate issued a no contact order against Snook, meaning he can not contact the victim.

The magistrate also granted Snook’s request for a public defender.

The defendant was released under supervision of the Department of Correctional Services and shall abide by all terms and conditions imposed by the DCS.

Snook’s preliminary hearing is Aug. 30.
