Local VFW ‘tip night’ slated for Monday

Benefits IVH residents

At times it is the little things in life that matter.

For many Iowa Veterans Home residents, having a weekly television guide is important, and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 839 is working to make sure they are available.

From 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Monday, auxiliary members will be serving food and bussing tables at Culver’s Restaurant, 16 Iowa Ave. W.

Their mission: Collect tip money from patrons which will allow the all-volunteer group to purchase guides and distribute them directly to IVH residents.

“The late Virginia Johnson of Marshalltown, who for years was an extremely active auxiliary member, saw this need and made sure residents were given guides,” Auxiliary President Connie Kennelley of Marshalltown said. “We are doing ‘tip night’ to benefit residents and also keep Virginia’s memory alive. The auxiliary is looking forward to serving many Marshalltown residents.”
