Man charged with felony theft
A Marshalltown man who allegedly wrote nearly $1,700 in bad checks was arrested by Marshalltown police Sunday on a warrant and charged with theft second degree, a Class D felony.
Shane Anthony Johnson Sr., 42, was taken to Marshall County Jail after an investigation by MPD detectives determined he had written the fraudulent checks beginning October of last year, according to a criminal complaint.
Johnson was also charged with possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense – also a Class D felony.
At his initial appearance Monday, Johnson was appointed a public defender and he remains in jail on $10,000 cash or surety bond.
His preliminary hearing is Aug. 29.
