Suspected car thief arrested at Story County Med Center

Huntrods

A local man is in the Marshall County Jail after being charged with stealing a vehicle, eluding law enforcement, and a host of traffic charges, according to court records.

Andrew D. Huntrods, 22, was taken into custody by Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputies after he was found at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

He was later transported to Marshall County Jail.

Sheriff Steve Hoffman said a joint operation of law enforcement agencies attempted to

stop Huntrods in the stolen vehicle late Saturday night.

Hoffman said the chase was suspended at one point, but authorities found stolen vehicle components near railroad tracks.

Hoffman said while driving, Huntrods hit the railroad tracks extremely hard, which loosened the vehicle’s components; they linked the vehicle to him.

Additionally, Huntrods was seen on surveillance video leaving an apartment building and unlocking a vehicle. Huntrods entered the vehicle and left the residence without permission to take or drive the vehicle. The defendant was also charged with reckless driving; driving on wrong side of a two-lane highway; failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way; failure to use head lamps when required; and other traffic offenses. Huntrods was appointed a public defender, and a no contact order issued against him to protect the victim. He is being held on $5,000 cash bond only. Theft in the second degree is a Class D felony as is eluding. His preliminary hearing is Aug. 21.
