Victim robbed at gunpoint downtown, arrest made

Samuel P. Williams

A 30-year-old Marshalltown man faces charges after robbing a man at gunpoint and stealing his car early Monday morning in Marshalltown.

Samuel P. Williams allegedly forced the victim, an employee of Zamora Fresh Market, 4 E. Main St., into the victim’s vehicle at gunpoint at approximately 4 a.m. The victim was robbed at gunpoint while behind the wheel but escaped injury by jumping out of the car, Capt. Brian Batterson of the Marshalltown Police Department said.

Williams soon afterward abandoned the vehicle and police located it near the intersection of Sixth Street and Jerome Street. There is no known relationship between the victim and the suspect, Batterson said.

Police were able to identify the suspect using Crime Stopper video surveillance cameras in the area. Williams was taken into custody a short time later on an unrelated warrant. Possible evidence was recovered at his home and in his vehicle.

Williams is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, and was transported to the Marshall County Jail to await his initial appearance. Williams does not have a history of serious crimes, Batterson said.
