A 39-year-old Grundy Center man died after suffering a medical issue while in custody of the Grundy County Sheriff.

Ricky Sigler was arrested with a third-offense OWI and third-offense methamphetamine possession during a traffic stop in Grundy Center just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a news release, Sigler was booked into the jail and then suffered the medical issue. He was transported by ambulance to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where he became unresponsive and died despite medical treatment.

Sigler was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny where an autopsy will be performed.

Standard procedure for in-custody related deaths requires and investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation.
