A local family may have gone hungry because vandals destroyed the First United Church of Christ’s little food box earlier this month. “They took it out of the ground and smashed it in the (church) parking lot,” said parishioner Marsha Doty of Marshalltown. “It is a really sad because there is a big need for food in our community. They did not hurt the church, but they hurt our neighbors who are hungry. This has happened before, but not to this extent.” Church secretary Barbara Ohrt said food was littered throughout the church parking lot, 204 S. 4th St.
