The annual Assistance League Fall Thrift Sale on Friday and Saturday was a success, raising more than $7,000.

The money will be distributed to various causes in Marshall County.

Liz Wise, the chair person of the event this year, said the sale had a nice turnout with at least 300 people showing up and purchasing items.

“We had a lot of donated merchandise which helped with sales this year,” Wise said.

The Assistance League of Marshalltown hosts sales twice a year — one in the fall and another in the spring — at the Salvation Army as fundraisers.

Not only does the money raised go toward local causes but people can also get things for their home at discounted prices.

Wise said it’s a double-win as the sale helps families who might still be recovering from the 2018 tornado.

“We have discounted furniture, baby clothes, shoes, household items; anything you need in your home or to live we have it at the thrift sale,” she said.

All of the leftover merchandise was donated to the Salvation Army.

Wise said all of the money raised by the Assistance League stays local.

The volunteer organization of 40 women have donated money to the Marshalltown tree restoration project, the Mid-Iowa workshop, the Marshalltown Roundhouse project, the Marshalltown Area Soccer Club and the East Marshall Field house.

The next event the Assistance League of Marshalltown will host is a charity ball on Dec. 7 at Elmwood County Club.
