Catholic radio station to hold open house

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Light from a cloudy July sky shone down on a worker setting up the new radio tower on Iowa Avenue East for KCRM and KDNH.

To celebrate the new studio, 96.7 KCRM-FM and 101.5-KDNH FM is holding an open house on Sunday.

Located at 211 W. Olive St., the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We want to reintroduce people to the fact that we are back on the air,” station manager Roger Polt said.

People can get a tour of the facility, receive some tokens of appreciation and enter a drawing for a crucifix which will be given away at the end of the day.

“Nice items have been provided to show gratitude to our listeners,” Polt said.

Even though the studio opened in July, he said they want to share it with their Marshalltown listeners. The signal for the radio station is only strong enough to cover Marshalltown.

The former studio at 207 E. Main St. was destroyed in the 2018 tornado.

The station was given a year to get back on the air or it would have lost its license.

The new studio is not the only difference for the station, either.

“Our website went live today,” Polt said. “It’s really simple – kcrmkdnh.com. We also have Facebook pages for each station.”

KCRM is an English station and KDNH is Spanish. Both stations broadcast material from EWTN and Relevant Radio.
