Man arrested for second offense domestic assault
Jose Alberto Torres-Fuentes, 46, Marshalltown, was arrested by Marshalltown police and taken to jail Sunday on a charge of domestic abuse assault-second offense, according to court documents.
Torres-Fuentes was charged after an investigation by MPD confirmed he assaulted the victim by grabbing her hair and pushing her up against a vehicle. While the defendant had the victim against the vehicle, he grabbed the victim’s writs, causing redness, according to the complaint.
Torres-Fuentes’ first conviction for domestic abuse assault was Sept. 28, 1996. Domestic abuse-second offense is an aggravated misdemeanor. At his initial appearance Sunday, a magistrate judge ordered him to be released on his own recognizance and placed a no contact order against him, meaning he can not contact the victim. Additionally, the magistrate denied Torres-Fuentes’ request for a court-appointed attorney.
Torres-Fuentes’ preliminary hearing is Oct. 25.
