An Alliant Energy crew was dispatched to the 900 block of West Boone Street Thursday afternoon when a contractor severed a two-inch gas line, said Alliant Energy spokesperson Mike Wagner. The Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched and on standby, Deputy Fire Chief Chris Cross said. No injuries were reported. The Alliant Energy crew isolated the break and were able to make repairs so there was no disruption in service. Streets leading to the site were blocked to traffic and pedestrians. “In an incident like this, our first duty is to make sure everyone in the impacted area is safe,” Wagner said. “Our crew responded quickly, and we will determine in the immediate future how the line was severed.”
