Local Hy-Vee employee Jordan Banes dishes-up a plate for Sharon Sletten of Marshalltown Monday at the local Hy-Vee Veterans Day Appreciation Breakfast. Sletten was getting a plate for her husband, a United States Marine Corps veteran, who had already taken a place at the table. From 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. guests had a choice of bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy and beverages. All was free-of-charge to active duty military, veterans and spouses. More than 400 were served by 10:20 a.m. Additionally, veterans were given a 10 percent discount on a variety of store purchases. Hy-Vee, Inc. has sponsored the event for many years at its stores throughout the Midwest.
