Local woman arrested on meth charges

Lucas

A 28-year old Marshalltown woman is charged with several methamphetamine-related charges following an arrest by the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force on Monday.

Blake Alxsandra Lucas was taken into custody when a search warrant was issued for her vehicle and at her residence in the 500 block of North Second Street.

With the assistance of Marshalltown Police, her vehicle was located with Lucas driving and the search warrants were executed. The investigation to obtain the search warrants took approximately one month, according to Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman.

Lucas was charged with a controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance, possession of controlled substance-marijuana first offense and carrying weapons, according to the criminal complaint.

Inside the residence investigators found electronic scales, small baggies commonly used to package narcotics and approximately 9 grams of a crystalline substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Hoffman said possession of more than 5 grams of methamphetamine qualifies as a Class B felony.

At her initial appearance Tuesday, a magistrate judge appointed Lucas a public defender and ordered her held on $25,000 cash or surety bond.

Lucas was also ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation within 60 days of release.

Her preliminary hearing is Nov. 27.
