$100K grant awarded to Veterans Memorial Coliseum

A $100,000 grant received from the Iowa Native Fund to the Iowa Veterans Memorial Coliseum project was announced on Tuesday and it provides a huge boost to local fund raising efforts.

The grant leaves only $87,000 left to raise, putting the fundraising efforts at 93.5% of the $1.35 million fundraising goal, Jessica Kinser, city administrator said.

The Native Fund was established by former University of Iowa football player Dallas Clark and actor Aston Kutcher, both native Iowans.

“A grant of this amount is completely unexpected and could help us meet our goal much sooner than expected,” Geoff Hubbard, Parks and Recreation Director said. “We are so thankful to the Native Fund for helping, especially following the devastation to the VMC from the July 2018 tornado.”

The announcement comes on Giving Tuesday, which is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on December 3 and every day.

The Coliseum Fundraising Committee is asking that donors think of the renovation of the Coliseum as a way to give on Dec. 3 and beyond. Online donations can be made at www.mtowncoliseum.com or by sending a check to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund, 24 North Center St., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.

All donations are tax deductible.
