Local deputies pursue suspect at speeds up to 90 mph

Dillon Knight,29, of Marshalltown was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff deputies and taken to jail Thursday on charges of eluding, attempting to elude and violation of parole, according to a sheriff’s report.

Knight faces seven other criminal counts ranging from failure to give continuous turn signals to driving while his license is under suspension.

Sheriff Steve Hoffman said a MCSO detective saw Knight, who was known to have a parole violation warrant, outside a motel on Iowa Avenue.

“Knight left the motel in a vehicle and failed to yield to emergency lights and then attempted to elude law enforcement traveling west on Iowa Avenue,” Hoffman said.

“Deputies intercepted Knight on Highway 30 and pursued him for approximately 8 miles on sections of highway and gravel roads at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. He lost control on Jessup Avenue south of Highway 330, striking a concrete bridge approach.”

Knight’s vehicle started a small grass fire, which was extinguished before it could consume the vehicle or spread.

Knight complained of pain, and was treated and released from Unity Point Health-Marshalltown before being transported to jail.

The MCSO was assisted on scene by Melbourne, Rhodes and State Center Fire and EMS as well as UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service.

At his initial appearance Friday, Knight was appointed a public defender and ordered held without bond on parole violation charge.

His preliminary hearing is Dec. 16.
