Man arrested for stealing assault weapon

Gordon Michael Riendeau, 30, Clarinda, was arrested by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Thursday on a warrant and taken to jail charged with one count of burglary second degree, a Class C felony. Riendeau had entered a Morton building without the owner’s permission and stole a AK-47 rifle, according to court records. Riendeau left evidence at the scene. The state crime lab identified the evidence as a match for Riendeau. The victim had also identified Riendeau as a suspect.

At his initial appearance Friday, a magistrate judge appointed Riendeau a public defender and ordered him held on $10,000 cash or surety bond.

His preliminary hearing is Jan. 10.

A Class C felony carries a maximum prison term not to exceed 10 years which may be deferred or suspended, and a fine of at least $1,000 but no more than $10,000.
