Man assaults woman

McDaniel

Austin Allen McDanniel, 21, of Marshalltown was arrested by local police and taken to jail Monday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury.

A witness observed McDanniel assaulting a female victim at a residence in the 300 block of South Second Avenue Monday and reported to authorities McDanniel “was going crazy” according to the complaint. The victim had large amounts of blood on her face and McDanniel was found with blood on his hands and swelling of his right hand.

The victim was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown but it was not known if she was admitted, Capt. Brian Batterson of MPD said.

At McDanniel’s initial appearance Tuesday, a magistrate judge issued a no contact order against McDanniel meaning he can not contact the victim.

He was also appointed a public defender, and ordered held on $1,000 cash or surety bond.

The charge is a serious misdemeanor, which carries a minimum sentence of at least 48 hours in jail and $1,000 fine. The maximum is one year in jail and $1,500 fine.

His preliminary hearing is Jan. 17.
