Marshalltown’s Orpheum Theater is sponsoring Winterfest — a Progressive Rock Event 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 25.

Winter blues may have set in, but Orpheum Theater director Bob Untiedt has a remedy — a progressive rock ‘n’ roll Winterfest at the iconic venue 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 25.

The Sires and The Halfloves — two bands familiar to Iowa rock aficionados are fired up and ready to go.

“Both have a following locally as well, and we hope this event continues our January tradition of well-attended shows,” he said.

The Halfloves of Iowa City have generated good reviews in a number of Cedar Rapids-Iowa City publications. They have been labeled as “one of the best bands in Iowa.” The Sires of Waterloo have gained popularity via Buzzfeed, which called them one of the best “indie” bands in Iowa. The bands are compelling artists.

Untiedt has been excited with attendance at numerous events since the well-known theater reopened after being closed for more than one year for repairs post-tornado.

“We have had more attendance at our ‘Live After Five’ events than we have ever had before, numbering at about 3,000.”

The OK Factor had above average attendance, Untiedt said.

“We had nearly 90 for that show. Over the years, our ‘ticketed’ events have averaged about 55. The OK Factor was a solid show.”

As a result, Untiedt said The Orpheum will consider booking more Christmas-time events.

Tickets for Winterfest are $12.50 per person.

“I think people need things to do that keep the warm in the winter and the bands will help them do that,” Untiedt said.
