Steve Salasek was elected chairman of the Marshall County Board of Supervisors for 2020 while David Thompson of Marshalltown was elected as vice-chairman in regular session Thursday.

In other action, the board made 16 one-year appointments to various county or regional boards. The appointments were limited to board members.

Supervisors were appointed to:

• Bill Patten: Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services, Emergency Management Agency, Marshall Economic Development, Marshall County Early Childhood, 28E Board for Central Iowa Community Services and Marshall County Joint E911 Service Board.

• Salesek: Marshall County Landfill Commission, Area Agency on Aging, Marshalltown Cluster Decategorization Child Welfare Service Plan, Mid-Iowa Community Action, Regional Workforce Investment Board and Advisory Committee on Intergovernmental Relations.

• Thompson: Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Commission in Eldora, Center Associates Board of Directors, Region VI Planning Commission and Chamber Board.

The supervisors designated the Times-Republican in Marshalltown, and Mid-Iowa Enterprise in State Center as official newspapers for publications of county proceedings.

Finally, the board approved a Marshall County Discrimination Disclaimer.

The next regular session is 9:05 a.m., Jan. 7, at Great Western Bank’s meeting room number one, second floor.
