Woman arrested on felony theft charges

Papiboune

Tammy Sue Papiboune, 57, of Marshalltown, was arrested by police Jan. 14 for alleged first degree theft.

Papiboune is charged with stealing in excess of $13,000 from her employer — a local restaurant — between April 2019 and Jan. 4 Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD said.

Batterson said the restaurant contacted the MPD Jan. 4.

The business said an employee was suspected of fraudulent activity while issuing refunds and asked the department to investigate.

The restaurant also conducted their own investigation.

Papiboune was not taken into custody but signed a summons to appear in court.

She made her initial court appearance on Monday.

Papiboune was appointed a public defender by a magistrate court judge.

First degree theft is a Class C felony and carries a maximum prison term not tot exceed 10 years, which may be deferred or suspended unless forcible felony. There is a fine of at least $1,000 but not more than $10,000.

Her preliminary hearing is Feb. 14.
