Man arrested for assault

Ross James Pentz, 29, of Marshalltown, was arrested by local police Wednesday and taken to jail on charges of assault causing bodily injury.

Pentz struck the victim several times in the chest and head during an incident on Wednesday at a Summit Street residence. Pentz also pushed the wheelchair bound victim over. The victim was helped up. However, Pentz grabbed the victim’s throat causing it to be sore.

The charge is a serious misdemeanor, which is punishable by a maximum jail term not to exceed one year. A mandator fine of at least $250 but not more than $1,500 may be imposed.

A magistrate judge ordered Pentz held on $1,000 bond cash or surety. The judge also appointed Pentz a public defender and issued a no contact order against him, meaning he can not contact the victim.

His preliminary hearing is Feb. 28.
