Clarence Cistile, 37, of Marshalltown, was arrested by local police on Feb. 22 and taken to jail on charges of assault causing bodily injury.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Church Street Feb. 22.

During the investigation, Cistile admitted to punching the victim in the head.

He was then taken into custody.

The charge is a serious misdemeanor, which carries a maximum jail term not to exceed one year and a mandatory fine of at least $250 but not more than $1,500.

At his initial appearance Monday, a magistrate judge ordered him held on $1,000 cash or surety bond.

His preliminary hearing is March 3.
