Tamberlyn Hogle of rural Grundy County and Dennis Drager of Urbandale share a laugh during a reception Tuesday for Drager at VCA “The Vet” business in Marshalltown. Hogle said Drager “was an outstanding veterinarian.” Drager and his wife Heidi Drager sent out invitations asking customers to join them to celebrate the promotion of Drager to “full-time grandpa.”

Actually, Drager is retiring after 32 years in business. Among other endeavors, Drager was active with the American Legion Riders and WellSpring Missions. He and staff were frequently recognized by various law enforcement agencies for waiving their fees to care for K-9s. The Dragers were also strong supporters of the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League. Drager said he will occasionally help out at VCA The Vet when needed. He and Heidi moved to Urbandale to be near their grandchildren.
