DES MOINES, Iowa — Marshall County has 271 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 32 cases.

There were 489 other new cases confirmed throughout the state of Iowa, for a total of 4,445. Of those, 1,604 cases have recovered.

There are 278 hospitalized patients. Of those, 104 are in intensive care units and 60 are on ventilators.

Marshall County is in Regional Medical Coordination Centers Region 1. Other counties in Region 1 are Adair, Appanoose, Boone, Carroll, Clark, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Greene, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Union, Warren and Wayne.

In Region 1, 84 patients are in the hospital; 26 are in intensive care units and 15 are on ventilators.

Eleven additional deaths were reported Friday for a total of 107 fatal cases in Iowa.

There have been 31,973 COVID-19 tests conducted.

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the gradual reopening of the state.

She said the actions residents have taken have helped slow the spread of the virus.

Effective Monday, health care systems can begin resuming elective procedures in phases. Each hospital, clinic and out-patient center will determine whether or not procedures can safely begin.

Reynolds also will open farmers markets on a limited basis as long as appropriate health precautions are taken. Social distancing should still be practiced.

“So this is our first step of many to reopening Iowa and getting life and business back to normal as soon as possible,” she said.

More action will be taken Monday to reopen businesses and the state. Reynolds said the reopening will be done in a safe and responsible manner but now is the time to begin talking about it.

A public hotline has been established for questions about COVID-19 in Iowa. It is available 24/7 by calling 2-1-1 or 1-800-244-7431.
