12 additional cases in Marshall County

DES MOINES — As of Thursday, Marshall County has 835 cases of COVID-19, a rise of 12 cases in 24 hours. There have been 423 residents who have recovered. The numbers on the Iowa Department of Public Health COVID-19 website are updated throughout the day.

Marshall County is in the top five of Iowa counties with the highest number of COVID-19 cases. The other counties with higher numbers are Polk with 3,342; Woodbury, 2,413; Black Hawk, 1,645; and Linn, 904.

Marshall County has two recorded outbreaks in long-term care facilities. The Iowa Veterans Home has had 32 positive cases of COVID-19, with 15 recovered and Accura HealthCare of Marshalltown has had 39 cases, with five recovered.

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) COVID-19 website has a page about serology tests conducted in the state. Serology tests detect antibodies formed by white blood cells in response to virus and bacteria. The tests are conducted on people who have recovered from COVID-19.

There have been 13,173 serology tests conducted statewide, eight of them were positive in Marshall County.

The IDPH reported 422 new cases on Thursday. There are 15,956 positive cases in the state. Of those, 8,528 have recovered.

There are 376 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 125 are in intensive care units and 80 are on ventilators.

Also, 404 Iowans – seven from Marshall County – have died from COVID-19, with 19 deaths confirmed Thursday.

The age group with the highest percentage of deaths – 47 percent — is 80 and older. The age group 61 to 80 has 41 percent of the deaths; 41 to 60, 10 percent; and 18 to 40, 2 percent.

Marshall County is in Regional Medical Coordination Centers Region 1 with 24 other counties. The most populous in the region is Polk.

In Region 1, 166 patients are in the hospital; 43 are in intensive care units and 27 are on ventilators.

There have been 110,214 tests conducted. Across the state, 475,106 Test Iowa assessments have been conducted – 1,712 in Marshall County.
