Marshalltown’s city clerk retiring

Coughenour

Shari Coughenour, Marshalltown’s City Clerk, is retiring.

She has worked for the city of Marshalltown for 20 years in June. She will work through July 1.

“I’ve had 20 years and it’s just time,” Coughenour said.

The news came out as the city has begun looking for her replacement by putting out a job notice.

“The city and I will miss her because she’s been the mainstay of our city offices through quite a few mayors, a few city administrators and a lot of council people,” said Mayor Joel Greer. “I really appreciated her responsiveness to questions and concerns.

The job notice was put out on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Coughenour puts together the city council agenda and is the first person people with questions usually talk to when they call city hall.

“She’s always been very organized and very pleasant to work with,” Greer said.
