Property tax, motor vehicle deadline extended
Deadlines for both property taxes and motor vehicle in the Marshall County Treasurer’s Office have been further extended in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a proclamation today that extends the deadlines to July 27th, 2020 for March 2020 property tax payments, vehicle registration renewals, vehicle title, registrations and license plates.
“This extension is for our property and vehicle owners who have been financially affected by the COVID 19 pandemic,” said Marshall County Treasurer Jarret Heil. “In the governor’s proclamation it specifically sites to not expect any further deadline extensions, so I urge those with the financial ability to pay their property taxes and vehicle registration renewals and conduct any vehicle titling to do so during the month of July.”
Even with the economic slowdown and office closure from the coronavirus in the past quarter, the Marshall County Treasurer’s Office has collected 97.7 percent of $56 million in property tax dollars the county is certified to collect this fiscal year, with $1.36 million remaining unpaid.
Additionally, in Marshall County, 2,500 vehicles have been titled and 12,000 vehicle registrations have been renewed since the Treasurer’s Office closed to the public on March 18.
