Former Apgar Studio frames go up for sale

T-R photo by Thomas Nelson Stacks of frames available at the former location of Apgar Studio which will be sold at a discount Saturday morning.

Hundreds of frames are going up for sale to make way for records.

John Blabaum’s business Odds & Ends and Wax-Static Record Audio and Stereo business is moving to a new location at the former Apgar Studios. Inside are frames of various sizes and shapes Blabaum is trying to sell.

“I hope to sell them all on Saturday,” he said.

Most of the frames are still their original packaging and have never been used.

Blabaum plans to sell the frames at a large discount, considering the prices they would original sell for.

Depending on the size the frames are selling for $30, $20, $10 and $5.

“There’s a $45 frame for $5,” Blabaum said.

He’s temporarily opening the doors to the old studio from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday to sell the frames.

“If you want to wear a mask, wear a mask,” Blabaum said. “I’ll only let so many people in here so it’s not a cluster.”

He asks prospective buyers to practice responsibility.

“I hate throwing all these things out, but they were just left behind,” Blabaum said. “I’m selling them cheap.”

He and Wax-Static Record Audio and Stereo are moving into the old photography studio, just down the street from their old building. Their former location was damaged by the 2018 tornado.

Other than being covered in dust, the artisan detail on many of the frames is very intricate.

Any frames left over after the sale will be disposed of.

“I hope some artists come up,” Blabaum said. “I just don’t want to throw them out.”
